Gillespie Bass Club

On September 23rd and 24th, the Gillespie Bass Club fished their last tourney of the season. The two-day tournament would be the last regular scheduled tournament for points for the 06 season. With the fisherman of the year title at stake and many anglers trying to secure a top-ten finish, this tournament was an important one. Smithland Pool is always known for its outstanding fishing. Tournaments take out of Golconda Marina almost every weekend of the fishing season. Water levels play an important role when it comes to river fishing. If the water drops, the fish generally get lock jaw. If the water rises, the fish may feed heavily. What happens though when the river raises a couple feet in just a day?! Ask the guys who fished that weekend. Im sure they will tell you! With sudden high, muddy water, the fishing wasn’t easy. Anglers who found cleaner calm water seemed to do the best. Here are the results:

1st, Bob Masierro, 8 fish, 12.34 lbs.
2nd, Dave Blevins, 7 fish, 9.16 lbs.
3rd, Nelson Marasti, 3 fish, 4.89 lbs.

On September 10th, the Gillespie Bass Club held its Guy/Gal tournament on Gillespie Lake. The winners are as follows:

1st, Mick and Trudy Harris, 4 fish, 11.64 lbs.
2nd, Butch Emery and partner, 2 fish, 4.77 lbs.
3rd, Bob and Lucinda Fulton, 1 fish, 4.22 lbs.
Big Bass, Bob and Lucinda Fulton, 4.22 lbs.

As always,..the steak dinner was enjoyed by all. Thanks to all who helped and brought side dishes.

Due to the Labor Day Holdiay on Monday, September 4th, the next meeting will be Monday, September 11th, 7:00 PM at Crawdaddies. Drawing for The Ohio River two-day. Entry fee is still $20.

Also, because of the meeting change, we will not have a meeting before the clubs Guy/Gal tourney. If you plan on fishing, get ahold of Bob Fulton Sr. if you haven’t done so already.
