Gillespie Bass Club

This Wednesday, May 2, the Wednesday nights tournaments begin at Gillespie Lake. For those of you who don’t know, They are buddy tournaments held every Wednesday night. $22 dollars a boat, fish as a team or by yourself. All lake rules apply. The point system is much like our clubs although we do receive participation points for showing up. Take off time is 5:30 and we normally fish till dark. Quitting times varies with daylight hours. These will be announced at the start of the tournament. Arrive at least a half hour early for drawing of boat numbers. At the end of the year, the top 20 boats will be eligible to fish the classic for a good chunk of change. So if your free on Wednesday nights, come on out and get your line wet. On April 15, 2007, the Gillespie Bass Club held their second tournament of the season on Coffeen Lake. With the recent warm weather we had, fish were moving up and getting ready to spawn. Unfortunately, a cold front moved in days before the tournament and the fish moved back out. Those who found deep grass, found fish. The winners are as follows:

1st, Jim Bray, 3 fish, 10.85 lbs.
2nd, JQ Halteman, 3 fish, 10.77 lbs.
3rd, Robert Hartley, 3 fish, 9.16 lbs.
Big Bass, Matt Stieren, 4.61 lbs.

37 anglers participated with 27 weighing in 61 fish for a total weight of 161.63 lbs.

On April 1, 2007, the Gillespie Bass Club held their first tournament of the season at Sangchris Lake. Sangchris lake has little protection from the wind, so the 35 mph plus winds made controlling the the boat pretty tough. Those who were able to battle the wind, did manage catch fish. The winners are as follows:

1st, JQ Halteman, 3 fish, 7.53 lbs.
2nd, Butch Emery, 3 fish, 7.40 lbs.
3rd, Jerry Tilley, 3 fish, 7.17 lbs.
Big Bass, Robert Hartley, 3.52 lbs.

40 anglers participated with 30 weighing in a total of 62 fish for a total weight of 137.91 lbs.
