Gillespie Bass Club

Jacksonville Tourney/Breakfast

May 29th, 2007

Our Jacksonville tournament is scheduled for June 3rd. Still time to get in. As most of you guys know, there really isn’t a good place to stop for breakfast the way we go to Jacksonville. Here is what we got planned if anyone wants a bite to eat. JQ got us the meeting room at the Gillespie Fire Dept. North end of Main Street with plenty of parking in back. They have a working kitchen and JQ said he is getting there early to put on his apron and get us coffee. So if your hungry and want to stop in, the more the merrier. Please, bass club members only.

Also, this is the weekend of the Gillespie Black Diamond Days. Main street will be closed down up to the firehouse so you will need to follow the detour around to the back parking lot. Any questions give me a call.

Joel Slightom welcomed back with Hillsboro win!

May 21st, 2007

On May 20, 2007, the Gillespie Bass Club held their fourth tournament of the season on Hillsboro Lake. Ask anyone on the lake that day and they will tell you it was a rough day of fishing. Simple as that. Spawn or Post Spawn? Rumors of fish still on the beds was the talk, yet some of the fish were caught deep and were spawned out. I guess its just that time of year. Here are the results:

1st, Joel Slightom, 2 fish, 8.27 lbs.
2nd, Eric Bolton, 3 fish, 6.37 lbs.
3rd, Donnie Bloemker, 2 fish, 4.86 lbs.
Big Bass, Joel Slightom, 5.63 lbs.

31 anglers participated with 15 weighing in 20 fish for a total weight of 47.24 lbs.

Slightom sets the hook on Vandalia!

May 7th, 2007

On May 6th, 2007, the Gillespie Bass Club held their third tourney of the season on Vandalia Lake. The weather for the day was low 80’s with a nice breeze which made the day very enjoyable. Vandalia Lake receives quite a bit of pressure from tournament fisherman from spring to fall. This pressure can sometimes give the fish a case of lock jaw. Anglers from the club still managed to find the fish though. The winners are as follows:

1st, Mike Slightom, 4 fish, 7.40 lbs.
2nd, Gus Viehweg, 4 fish, 6.95 lbs.
3rd, JQ Halteman, 3 fish, 5.97 lbs.
Big Bass, Wade Hobaugh, 3.76 lbs.

34 anglers participated with 17 weighing in 30 fish for a total weight of 59.95 lbs.
