Roger Large claims first prize at Forbes!

May 18th, 2008

On May 18th, 2008, the Gillespie Bass Club held their 6th tournament of the season on Stephen Forbes Lake. It was a tough tournament for many anglers. With water temps hanging around 65 degree’s and dingy water across the majority of the lake, who is to say why fishing was tough. Talk of another tournament the day before produced some nice bags of fish. Maybe the pressure from the previous tournament and the recent cold front took a toll on the fishing. I’ll say it again. Someone always finds the fish! Here are your money winners for the tournament:

1st, Roger Large - 3 fish - 4.27 lbs.
2nd, Ken Wise - 3 fish - 4.09 lbs.
3rd, Nelson Marasti - 2 fish - 3.85 lbs.
Big Bass - Nelson Marasti - 2.37 lbs.

22 anglers participated with 9 weighing in 18 fish for a total weight of 27.26 lbs.

Wednesday Night Tournaments have started!

May 10th, 2008

The Wednesday night tournaments have begun at Gillespie Lake. For those of you who don’t know, They are buddy tournaments held every Wednesday night. $22 dollars a boat, fish as a team or by yourself. All lake rules apply. The point system is much like our clubs although we do receive participation points for showing up. Take off time is 5:30 and we normally fish till dark. Quitting times varies with daylight hours. These will be announced at the start of the tournament. Arrive at least a half hour early for drawing of boat numbers. At the end of the year, the top 20 boats will be eligible to fish the classic for a good chunk of change. So if your free on Wednesday nights, come on out and get your line wet. Any questions feel free to call tournament director JQ Halteman at 217-839-3576.
