Gillespie Bass Club

“Angler of the year”. Its the award that is given to the angler who compiled the most points in regular club tournaments through out the year. Its not about the most weight or number of fish an angler catches, its consistency. Mike was consistent in catching fish in almost every tournament this year. Looking back at the stats, Sangchris was the only one he failed to weigh in a fish. Its not an easy task. So when you see Mike, make sure and congratulate him!

On September 28th, 2008, the Gillespie Bass Club held their 11th tournament of the season on Taylorville Lake. The weather was great and the lake looked really good. The fishing on the other hand was tough for everyone. Those who caught fish definitely had to work for them. The money winners are as follows:

1st, Jim Slightom, 2 fish, 8.58 lbs.
2nd, Marty Derganc, 3 fish, 7.71 lbs.
3rd, Mike Slightom, 2 fish, 6.38 lbs.
Big Bass, Jim Slightom, 6.45 lbs.

13 anglers participated with 4 weighing in 8 fish for a total weight of 25.72 lbs.

On September 7,2008, the Gillespie Bass Club held their 10th tourney of the season on Shelbyville Lake. Recent high water certainly didn’t affect the fishing any. Catching short fish was not a problem. Reports of anglers catching 20-30 fish just shy of the 14 inch limit was the talk of the day. Should be great fishing in the next couple years. Those who managed to find the keepers are as follows:

1st, JQ Halteman - 6 fish - 13.63 lbs.
2nd, Gus Viehweg- 6 fish - 13.07 lbs.
3rd, Lonnie Gerdes -5 fish - 11.21 lbs.
Big Bass, Gus Viehweg - 5.10 lbs.

22 anglers participated with 17 weighing in 53 fish for a total weight of 106.81
