On May 17, 2009, the Gillespie Bass Club held their 5th tournament of the season on Vandalia Lake. The money winners are listed below.

1st, Bruce Striegel, 4 fish, 11.91 lbs.
2nd, Matt Stieren, 4 fish, 8.65 lbs.
3rd, Lonnie Gerdes, 3 fish, 8.11 lbs.
Big Bass, Roger Large, 6.93 lbs.

On May 3rd, 2009, the Gillespie Bass Club held their 4th tournament of the season on Gillespie New Lake. The home lake of the club is known for its great forage base and quality keeper size bass! With such a great supply of food in the lake, it’s hard to compete with the real thing sometimes! Those who managed to fool those spawners into biting, caught nice ones! The winners are as follows:

1st, Marty Derganc, 3 fish, 9.42 lbs.
2nd, Bob Masiero, 2 fish, 7.74 lbs.
3rd, Joe Slemer, 3 fish, 6.97 lbs.
Big Bass, Marty Derganc, 5.31 lbs.

On April 25 and 26, the Gillespie Bass Club made the long drive to Lake of the Ozarks to compete in their third tournament of the season. A new lake for many of the anglers, made for some interesting fishing. Being from Illinois, most anglers never get to see such a lake. The clear water and numerous places to fish can overwhelm an angler because every bit of structure looks “fishy”. The only bad thing, the wind blew for 4 days straight. Combine that with the nice weather that brought out the pleasure boaters, made for some rough water and tougher fishing. As always, some very nice fish were brought to the scales! The winners are as follows: Two-day totals.
1st, Mike Slightom, 7 fish, 19.15 lbs.
2nd, Ron Borror, 7 fish, 17.97 lbs.
3rd, JQ Halteman, 6 fish, 15.99 lbs.
Big Bass, Bob Fulton Jr, 8.39 lbs.
Note: Bob’s fish takes over big bass of the year AND takes the record as biggest bass ever caught in a Gillespie Bass Club tournament.
