Gillespie Bass Club

Newton Tourney

April 8th, 2010

Just some information on Newton. Alot of the newer members have never been to this lake and its a pretty good drive. I think from Gillespie to the lake is around 106 miles. Keep this is mind when deciding on a time to leave in the morning. If your wondering about a place to eat, most of the members stop in Effingham at the Iron Skillet. It’s the first Effingham exit. If you don’t feel like driving down the morning of, some of us are going down a day early and staying at the Super 8 in Effingham. This is the second Effingham exit. If you plan on doing that, I would call in advance to book a room. Some other useful info. This lake has enforced an 18 inch limit. Some of you and myself are saying “Have I ever caught an 18 inch fish?” Well they are in there and they are big and mean. Nothing like throwing back a 4 pounder cause it was short! See everyone at the lake.

Next Meeting- Monday, April 5th

April 2nd, 2010

This is just a reminder that our next meeting is slated for Monday, April 5th. We are drawing for two tournaments. Newton Lake, April 11 and Kentucky Lake, April 24-25. If your planning on fishing Kentucky, this will be an important meeting to attend. Also, those of you who have Bass Club jackets that need returned, please bring them to the meeting. See everyone Monday.

Two wins in a row for Mike Slightom! This time at Sangchris!

March 29th, 2010

On March 28, 2010, the Gillespie Bass Club held their second tournament of the season on windy and rainy Sangchris Lake. A normally pleasant and beautiful lake to fish, this day Mother Nature had other things in mind. Water temps were ranging in the mid 50’s on the cold end and the low 60’s in the hot ditch. Steady rain and the recent cold front made fishing tougher than what anglers expected. Also note that this lake was a 1 over 15, two under slot limit. The results are as follows:

1st, Mike Slightom, 3 fish, 8.54 lbs.
2nd, Chad Satterlee, 3 fish, 7.38 lbs.
3rd, Dan Archer, 2 fish, 6.41 lbs.
Big Bass, Mike Slightom, 5.53 lbs.

Sangchris

March 20th, 2010

Just a reminder that our Sangchris tourney is just around the corner. March 28. We have 35 anglers fishing as of now and there is still time to get in if you would like to fish.

Also, if your wondering about a place to eat for breakfast, the place we usually eat at in Pawnee said they will be open Sunday morning at 5:30. That’s all for now!

Mike Slightom kicks off season with win at Coffeen!

March 15th, 2010

On March 14th, 2010, the Gillespie Bass Club held their 1st tournament of the 2010 schedule on well known Coffeen Lake. 32 anglers participated with all 32 anglers weighing in 91 fish for a total weight of 166.59 lbs. A slot limit on the lake of one over and two under made for an interesting day of fishing. The key was getting two quality fish under 15 inches and then a solid over 15 kicker. The winners are as follows:

1st, Mike Slightom, 3 fish, 7.08 lbs.
2nd, Roger Large, 3 fish, 6.54 lbs.
3rd, Nelson Marasti, 3 fish, 6.46 lbs.
Big Bass, Dan Archer, 3.55 lbs.
